Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center

Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center is a hospital in Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines.

It began operation in 1911 as Hospital Del Sur and was soon legally established as Southern Islands Hospital. In 1992, it was renamed to honor Senator Vicente Sotto. As of 1998, it is authorized to have 800 beds.[1]

The hospital is the site of the Canister Scandal, in which surgeons secretly video-taped an operation removing a canister from a man's anus and broadcasted it on the web. The patient filed a suit against them. As a penalty, the surgeons were suspended from work but were pardoned and reinstated only a few months later.[2]
